$500k for Scott seems about right given that Will Chambers is on about $750k and he's probably the best centre running around at the moment

Curtis Scott could be “Great Scott!” or “Scott no mates!” by the time this contract is through but if the people in the know really think he is valuable as some think; I see this as a bargain investment. He will be 23 once this contract finishes and ready to hit his prime. And his age and demographic fits perfectly for the Melbourne Storm Generation Next that we have quietly and deliberately aligned together to give an almost seamless transition for when the Big 3 retire.

Curtis Scott is “here and now” but he is also “the future”.

7 News Brisbane reported tonight that the Storm and Rabbitohs are both circling Bronco Corey Oates as a second rower.

I love Corey Oates. But is it 2014 or 2018?

He's 23 going 24 not 33/34.

Young origin player. Of course you'd look at him.

Oates could be a breakout in the back row.

I heard a comment on a podcast that the attributes that make Corey Oates special as a winger wouldn't translate to the second rower position. He's big for a winger but average for a second rower. He has agility and can finish off a try among the best in the game but he wouldn't really need those skills playing in the second row. They also raised questions about how he would manage the defensive load playing in the middle third rather than out wide.

I see that both the Titans and Manly have their eye on Jacks so looks like we'll have a bit of a battle to re-sign him, that said I'm pretty confident of keeping him unless he receives some ridiculous offer he can refuse. Obviously Munster will move to 1 when Bill hangs them up so he'll slot straight into the halves. Even if Bill did decide to play on another year (which I'm not sure he will) I'm sure he'll still have his opportunity if he bides his time a bit longer.

We have Munster, Hughes, Croft, Papenhuyzen signed long term and even someone like Drinkwater is around the first grade squad already.

Hard to see where Jacks fits in.

I like Jacks as a depth player but if he gets good coin and a starting spot somewhere else then best of luck to him. He's certainly among the better halves playing reserve grade.
I also heard we're showing interest in Brock Lamb. He would be a good signing to play in the halves next year. From what I've seen Hughes is a great FB option with a great running game but I haven't seen enough of him in the halves to know how his kicking/passing/game management goes. Always good to have some options to contest for a starting spot.

Yep, looks like Womanly are really keen on Jacks...

Manly look to Storm for halves fix
NATHAN RYAN
March 21, 2018

If you don’t have Blake Green, what’s your next best option?

Sign a player cut from a similar cloth.

It’s certainly an option Manly are exploring with Market Watch able to reveal the Sea Eagles are looking at Melbourne playmaker Ryley Jacks to fill the void.

Jacks joined the Storm in 2017 after Green moved to the Sea Eagles.

A stocky five-eighth who plays on the left edge with a strong kicking game and a steady head, Jacks is off-contact and seeking stability.

While Jacks played 12 games in his rookie season and started in Round One with Cameron Munster at fullback while Billy Slater was sidelined, he’s been unable to secure a regular starting position.

That’s what he’s chasing with his next deal.

While the Storm haven’t started contract talks with several players including Jacks, the opportunity to lock down a regular position could cost them.

But should he decide to sign with a rival team, you can ensure Jacks will see out his current deal with the Storm.

It’s understood one club already made discreet inquiries into Jacks’ availability for 2018 and were met with a firm no.

Brock Lamb would be a good get. We need some actual halves in our system.
