it was unrelenting yesterday..

I have never seen such a wholesale attack on a player for nothing as what happened yesterday..

Given at the same time the Melbourne Storm were denying everything.

NRL 2018: I've never had Cameron Munster exit talks, says Craig Bellamy

Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy insists he hasn't been involved in talks to release star five-eighth Cameron Munster from his NRL contract.

The Storm were on Wednesday forced to deny a report claiming Munster was on thin ice following a string of minor off-field incidents .

Munster's behaviour came under the spotlight following revelations he went home to Melbourne following a reported altercation with a Kangaroos teammate during the World Cup.

The 23-year-old played in the Storm's 26-22 trial loss to Newcastle on Wednesday and Bellamy briefly addressed the Munster situation after the match.

"I can honestly say that I have never been in any discussions at this club where we have spoken about releasing Cameron Munster," Bellamy told the Seven Network.

Craig Bellamy: Cameron Munster lost his way and needs to be careful with his alcohol intake

RAIG Bellamy admits Cameron Munster has a problem behaving when affected by alcohol after the under-fire playmaker’s bust-up with Ben Hunt brought his NRL career into question.

The Melbourne, Queensland and Australian five-eighth is reportedly on thin ice at the Storm after coming to blows with Kangaroos teammate Hunt during last year’s World Cup.

The club moved swiftly to deny Munster could be released however it has brought his off-field behaviour into focus.

In 2016, Munster was banned for 12 months by Maroons management after he was one of eight players to break curfew during an Emerging Origin camp. Bellamy said the club had not discussed releasing Munster from the final two years of his contract but admitted the 23-year-old had an uneasy relationship with drinking.

“Deep down he’s a really good kid. I think everyone really likes him,” Bellamy told Channel 7

Early he had some rough edges we had to fold off a touch. Following that World Cup he just seemed to lose his way there for a little bit.

“At times, he has some issues every now and then when he drinks alcohol. He needs to temper that and understand how much he can drink or can’t drink so he doesn’t do silly things.”

Munster is considered the long-term playmaker around which Bellamy will build his side following the retirements of Billy Slater and Cameron Smith. He is expected to be joined in the halves by young talent Brodie Croft, and is also in strong contention to establish himself in Queensland State of Origin and Kangaroos teams this year.

Bellamy implored Munster not to waste his opportunity and address his errant behaviour.

“He just needs to behave himself off the field and be consistent about it,” Bellamy said.

“He’s one hell of a footy player. He’s a great person as well.”

So basically Melbourne Storm put the story out to try and shock Cameron Muster into sobriety

and then they denied it

Great use of the media.

You don’t need the media to give him a kick up the arse tho. And it also would make no sense to do it right before the season kicks off. Why create unnecessary headaches right before the season starts?

Ah no the media is not finished. It’s not over. Their still going on about it. They will play this out probably for the rest of his career. His reputation has taken a massive hit. The media are tryin to turn him into Todd Carney 2.0, everything he does now is going to be heavily criticised even if it’s nothing.

That was exactly the plan by the brilliant Melbourne Storm brain trust.

bring Cameron Muster down a peg or two and make him think about where he is heading off the field.

Meanwhile Cameron will dominate on the field.

This is how families treat each other. And Cameron Munster is part of our family.

Cameron Munster is not Todd Carney. Munster will never be caught bubbling.

No most families would prefer to keep personal stuff out of the media. You don’t need to leak it to the media to bring him down a peg. I’m sure the likes of Bellamy, Cam Smith, Frank Ponissi etc could get the point across without throwing him under the bus

Well clearly that wasn't the tactic they used on this occasion. Perhaps they have tried that. Public humiliation was the next step.

Or they just didn’t leak it. And the media just made stuff up, like the do for the majority of their stuff

Bellamy admitted that Cameron Munster had alcohol issues. But the media did the hard yards for him to make Munster think and - pull his head in.

The media reports will probably help pull him in line but that doesn’t mean the Storm leaked it to the media. My guess is it went something like this, first the story comes out about Munster and Hunt, then reporters just thought to themselves how can we make this a bigger headline. I know let’s say the Storm are considering sacking him and that Cameron Smith has had enough with him
