Re: Team of 20 Years

Lazarus is a tough one - only played 44 games but was a premiership captain, set the club culture up and was one of the great players of his era. I guess the reason he doesn't vet picked by everyone is the short Storm career but certainly has to be in the discussion. I think part of the problem is ...

Mattpoet wrote:I think we'll all agree on Cronk, I guess the question is, do you throw Noddy into the mix for a bench spot?

Nope. A team certainly but not a bench spot. We have had plenty of players more versatile - Noddy was purely a halfback

Re: Team of 20 Years

Yeah, you're right. The source I had to hand said DJ at 11, but I just dug around on the Storm site and they have Hoff and Mooks as back rowers and DJ on the bench. https://web.archive.org/web/20080822090855/http://www.melbournestorm.com.au/default.asp?sec=15&ssec=8

Re: Team of 20 Years

What's the opinion though of the storm team of the decade selected back in 2007. Surely if you didn't make that team at the time, like Robbie Ross, then you can't possibly be considered 10 years later to make the 20 year team, even on the bench Depends on your opinion of the selections then. For ex...

Re: Team of 20 Years

MG was a winger first and foremost and a utility second. Picking him at 14 would be a disservice to him and keep a genuine bench utility from earning a spot. Hinchy deserves the 14 We're jumping ahead a bit but I'd have Danny at 14. He was invaluable to us in the early years. Hinchy for Storm A 13'...

Storm 20 year Wing - Geyer, Bai (Based on service to the team and overall value) Storm A Wing - Folau, Vunivalu Lucas commented that Vunivalu wasn't eligible yet - presumably because he's only been here two seasons; by comparison Izzy and Marika were only here three and Suli's already scored more th...

Re: Team of 20 Years

Slater clearly but boy Robbie Ross could play. Mattpoet agreed that a second XVII would be interesting to. So Slater at number 1 in the first team and Ross at number 1 in the second team. My word he could play. A huge favourite in the early days - hence my adoption of his name for this forum ! http...

So:
Storm 20 years Fullback - Billy Slater
Storm A Fullback - Robbie Ross.

There number one ticket holder and local MP is Tony Abbott.

Re: Golden boot 2017

I think Smith has been the standout player in the world this year, but Tomo has been easily the best non-ballplayer in the World Cup and I wouldn't be surprised (or particularly upset) if they gave it to him. McGilvary has been solid but no more than that, and Suli has had waaaay to many errors at i...

Re: Cooper Cronk confirms he will play on with a Sydney club in season 2018

There is more to sport than the sport. Anyone who has played sport knows this. It is about the mate-ship. The comradeship. There needs to be a unity in the NRL and it WILL happen. If it doesn't happen during their playing career. Cronk, Smith and Slater will unite the NRL in their post playing care...

Re: Cooper Cronk confirms he will play on with a Sydney club in season 2018

You must admit it was brilliant what Fiji and Australia did last night. It transcended sport. Hardly Surely that is the type of response we want to give Cooper to make him know how special he is to us Melbourne Storm fans. No, we don't It would be a remarkable moment for the National Rugby League. ...
